Project
Brief
This project is a speculative sustainable innovation based on a real-life small-scale business that I established in Queen Victoria Market. The business specialises in selling coconut-themed drinks and it generates coconut waste. I design this system for a flagship store of LELENÜT in a possible future scenario. The goal is to convert the coconut waste generated by the store into coconut 3D printing filament and further produce customisable products to sell to customers. The project mainly consists of four development parts, which are detailed below. It follows a logical progression: journey maps of coconuts and customers, 3D filament fabrication, production line design & CAD modelling, and 3D printed cup design with a prototype using coconut filament.
Design
Outcomes
From outcomes 1 to 4, the entire speculative design progress encompasses the following four progresses of outcomes. The purpose is to theoretically validating mass-manufacturing coconut waste filament using freshly discarded coconut waste.

$105.8B
of estimated international market cap for coconut in year 2025
63.5%
of the component in coconut waste is consists of lignocelluloses that takes more than 5 years to be biodegraded
25,816
of imported coconut shipment are shipped to Australia in 2021
